Discreet transactions for every customer

Nearly half the UK public (48%) use in-person banking at least once a month, according to research from the Post Office.  There is clearly still value in face to face interactions both for everyday transactions and more high worth investments, with more than half of those earning over £75,000 opening an account in branch in the last two years.

Personal communication clearly gives people confidence and it’s important that confidentiality and dignity are maintained at the banking window.  But glass screens, background noise and busy branches can make it difficult to discuss financial matters at a discreet volume.

There is a solution.

Window intercoms are a feature of many secure windows that people probably don’t notice yet rely on to make their transactions.  They make conversation easy and clear by transferring speech from one side of the glass to the other.  With a broad range of designs available, there are some stand out features to look for when choosing the right model.

Seamless design

These systems can be overlooked by customers because of their discreet design.  Microphones that pick up customers’ voices can be positioned on a bar system that bridges the cash tray or mounted on the glass screen itself.  Speakers that amplify the staff member’s voice can sit neatly on the countertop or be embedded into it.  And the housing can be tailored to brand colours.

High quality components

It’s important that the microphones used on both sides of the glass are uni-directional.  That means they only pick up the speaker’s voice and not the surrounding noise and chatter in branch.  High quality microphones and speaker units make for greater clarity and that’s important when people want to be able to discuss their money at a reasonable volume and without the need for repetition.

Energy saving

When the branch is open, the window intercoms should be on.  They are a must-use feature just like the lighting and for branches with several windows, they add to energy costs.  Choose energy saving models that ‘sleep’ until speech is detected.  And ‘speech’ is the key word here – they ignore other noises and only respond to voices.  This also means they stay cooler.

Inclusive features

Noisy environments like bank branches are most challenging for people with hearing loss.  With a built-in hearing loop, a window intercom system gives those who use hearing aids sound directly to their device, cutting out background noise and providing clarity.  As well as creating a welcoming and inclusive service, hearing loops also support compliance with British Standards and the Equality Act.  Make sure every window has a hearing loop so that hearing device users can use any and all of them, just as other customers can.

Suitable for mobile branches

Banking has changed and not every branch is in a fixed location.  Mobile branches that take services to the community can also be fitted with window intercom systems.

Clarity gives confidence

With growing concerns around financial scams and online security, face-to-face contact in branch provides reassurance to customers.  Communication is central to that.  Window intercoms make those conversations clear, reducing frustrations and making for a smooth and efficient service.
