22 Sep Inclusive Performances for Theatre Audiences in Johannesburg

Audiences at three theatres in Johannesburg, South Africa, have welcomed the installation of Contacta hearing loops as ‘amazing’ and ‘fantastic’.

Our distributors in the region, Prosound, have been working with Joburg City Theatres for more than 30 years and have recently completed the installation of hearing loops in all three of the group’s venues – Roodepoort Theatre, Joburg Theatre and Soweto Theatre.

The company’s team of expert engineers surveyed the venues to decide on the correct system for each auditorium.  They determined hearing loops would give audiences the best sound quality.  They installed large area loop systems powered by our V34a and V-22a Pro hearing loop drivers to ensure sound would meet the IEC 60118-4 required standard for hearing loops.

Prosound also installed Contacta’s rechargeable loop listeners which allow those without T-coil enabled hearing devices to access the sound from the loop via a small receiver and headphones.

As well as making performances accessible for audience members with hearing loss, Prosound have also installed under-the-counter hearing loop systems front of house in the ticket and retail areas.

It’s the first assistive listening technology the theatres have had and the response has been overwhelmingly positive.

Joburg City Theatres has also provided comprehensive information about the hearing loop systems on its website so audiences know before they arrive what’s available and how it works.
