One of Glasgow’s oldest buildings gets a loop upgrade

Trades Hall in Glasgow, Scotland is one of the city’s oldest buildings, dating back to the late 18th Century.  Home to the Trades House of Glasgow, a charity that’s been part of the city since 1605, it’s now used as an events space hosting meetings, weddings and celebrations.

Its managers approached us in the summer of 2025 and requested an audit of their existing hearing loop systems in the venue.  They needed to be able to assure a potential client that loops were available and in good working order to secure the booking, as this has been specifically requested.

Our engineers are always happy to check existing systems and will fix them where possible or replace only those components that don’t work.

They found that the hearing loop cable in the Salon was intact and could be reused but a new V22+ driver was needed to bring the loop’s performance up to standard.

The loop cable in the Grand Hall hadn’t been properly secured and had been cut so this needed to be replaced.  Our engineers chose a brown colour cable to blend in with the room’s décor.  This was secured along the skirting board.  A V22+ hearing loop driver was installed to provide a strong and consistent signal across the whole of the 250seater space.

Attention to detail is key in every job we carry out but our team are always mindful of how they install assistive listening systems in heritage buildings.  The customer was very pleased with their work, and asked our team to survey The Robert Adams Room, Reception Room and North Gallery with a view to installing further systems in these rooms in the future.
